NEXT month’s MTV Video Music Awards is surely going to delight all the Little Monsters out there, with Lady Gaga nominated for a whopping 13 awards—the most nods ever received by a single artist in a single year in history.
She is nominated for Best Pop Video, Best Dance Music Video, Best Female Video and Best Choreography for “Bad Romance,” and is also up for Best Collaboration for “Telephone” with Beyoncé, among others.
“I’m so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history,” said Gaga. “Ironically, I’m even more proud it’s an unlucky number: 13.”
“A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: to make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous. Thank you, MTV!”
Coming in close at second place is—we didn’t expect this one—Eminem, whose new album Recovery earned him 8 nominations for collaborations with Rihanna and the like.
He took time to express his, umm, gratitude in true Slim style: “Apparently MTV doesn’t care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. F me, right?!?! I mean, I’ll be there, but don’t expect me to be nice about it.”
Other nominees of course include Gaga partner-in-crime Bey (nominated for her Gaga collab “Video Phone”), Justin Bieber, Drake, Ke$ha, Jay-Z, Katy Perry, Alicia Keys and new husband Swizz Beatz, Usher, Pink, Rihanna, Jason Derulo, Coldplay and Taylor Swift.
