The first pictures of Monday’s star-studded recording session for the remake of “We Are the World” were released and it promises a landmark performance for 2010.

The very large cast of superstars must have been difficult to manage, but producer Quincy Jones made sure that he kept them inline with a “Check Your Ego at the Door” sign hung above the studio entrance. But that didn’t stop Kanye West from showing up to the Jim Henson studios with an entourage complete with attention-whore girlfriend Amber Rose and a film crew in tow.

Jones and Lionel Richie brought back the project 25 years after Richie co-wrote the song with Michael Jackson. While the original recording was sold to raise money in the fight against world famine, the remake will be sold to benefit victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Many stars have started talking about the experience and it sounds like it will match up to the original.

Nicole Richie was there with her father when he worked on the original, and now she was there with husband Joel Madden and son Sparrow. She wrote on her Twitter: “WOW. Brian Wilson stood next to me & I got to hear him sing right into my left ear. Can you say AWESOME!”

Meanwhile, baby star Justin Bieber said he could barely keep his eyes off Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger.

An ET special showed the stars singing in the studio, with Jones and Richie keeping a close watch on the recordings. Will.I.Am of the Black Eyed Peas is also overheard suggesting to Jones that fans and the public should be given the opportunity to record their bit of the song for a special remixed version of the track, with Jones responding positively.

Quincy addresses his pop-stars: “It’s no accident that this happened. Everybody was mumbling ‘Maybe, maybe not.’”

“People have asked us three hundred times to do this again, but we chose this one and we’re happy that we chose you, and we chose to do it. Thank you from the bottom of my heart,” he said.

Native Haitian rapper Wyclef Jean addressed his fellow singers as well: “The way that I can express to you is from the bottom of my heart.”

“From me, and all of the Haitian people in Haiti, it might not mean much but let me explain to you what’s bigger than a contribution. What’s bigger than a contribution is the fact that you lend your voice.”

“I think the end purpose of this [is] for us to have Haiti in our minds not for now but when the cameras go out this song will live on.” he said.

R&B singer Mya expressed her delight in being a part of the recording.

“This is actually a historical event. But more than a historical event, this is about Haiti, and coming together to help. This is all about humanity and life which is the greatest gift on Earth,” she said.
