THOSE of us who have tried wearing fake lashes will either love them or hate them. Personally, I think they’re a godsend for that special occasion when no amount of mascara will give you those gorgeously fluttery eyes you’re looking for. But find the wrong pair and you’ll look more RuPaul than Rihanna.

In recent times, we’ve seen incarnations of your standard lashes—from Jennifer Lopez‘s infamous fox fur ones to feathered, glittered and coloured concoctions. But nothing prepared us for these: Paperself eyelashes.

They’re not really eyelashes per se; they’re actually intricate paper cuttings featuring designs such as horses, peonies and peach blossoms. Born from a classical Chinese craft, the pieces are formed from a single piece of paper, and therefore makes it possible for us to pop the entire design on like a regular pair of lashes.

We’re not convinced they should be worn on your next dinner date but we believe Halloween is creeping up fast…
