Oscars 2010: The Winners!

THE Hurt Locker and Avatar started the 82nd Academy Awards night with nine nominations each, but as the closing music played in the Kodak Theatre, top spot was finally decided.
With the Oscars for Best Director and Best Picture both going to The Hurt Locker, it was clear the film about a bomb disposal crew working in Baghdad was the night’s big winner.
The final tally was six awards to Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker, and three to ex-husband James Cameron’s Avatar.
Best actor went to sentimental favourite Jeff Bridges for his role in Crazy Heart, while Sandra Bullock made it a best-and-worst double in 24 hours with her Best Actress Oscar for The Blind Side to match the Razzie she collected for her performance in All About Steve.
The first major award of the night went to Austrian actor Christoph Waltz who was named Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of the “Jew Hunter” in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds. He paid tribute to both the director and co-star Brad Pitt in his acceptance speech.
Unsuprisingly, Mo’Nique won the gong for Best Supporting Actress for her role as an abusive mother in Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push’ by Sapphire. Mo’Nique has also won a Golden Globe, Screen Actors Guild Award and BAFTA for the role, and received a standing ovation as she went to collect her award. The 42-year-old comedienne paid tribute to the film’s producer Oprah Winfrey, and her manager and husband, Sidney.
