AMERICAN broadcaster NBS has cancelled the original Law & Order series, according to reports.

The network apparently decided the crime investigation drama would not return for its 21st season, said Deadline.com.

The cancellation means the series ties with Gunsmoke for the longest-running series in television history.

That said, NBC themselves have not yet released a statement to confirm nor deny the reports, and there are no rumours that spinoffs Law & Order: Special Victims Unit and Law & Order: Criminal Intent would see similar fates.
